Wunderkammer
This Wunderkammer is a growing collection of curiosities—objects I collect and make, each revealing something unexpected. The idea was sparked by a visit to Coimbra University’s Cabinet of Curiosity during an artist residency at Studio 459, Portugal, in 2024. Further discussions with Mark Richards of Studio 459 encouraged me to create my own Cabinet/Wunderkammer, a space to assemble and display these finds.
Pareidolia (par-i-DOH-lee-a) is a form of apophenia—our tendency to perceive patterns in randomness. This psychological phenomenon compels us to see faces, figures, or familiar shapes in everyday objects, imbuing them with meaning.
Here, plastic product fixings and natural materials take on new identities—some appear animal-like, others almost deity-like. A few artifacts also carry a deep sense of nostalgia, evoking distant memories or familiar emotions.
